My First Thoughts on the Saucony Shadow 5000 EVR

Saucony recently teamed up with German boutique solebox to debut their newest Originals model, the Shadow 5000 EVR. While the model is a modernized version of the classic Shadow 5000 silhouette, the Pink Devil colorway is a nod to both brands’ well-liked 2012 Shadow 5000 collaboration.

As soon as I got the Shadow 5000 EVR in hand, I immediately noticed:

1) Overall lightness of the shoe
2) Knit durability and malleability
3) Full-length EVERUN midsole and topsole

All three points add up to comfort and although this is a lifestyle shoe, the Shadow 5000 EVR was created with comfort at the forefront of design. It’s something I’d definitely wear if I was planning to spend the day at Disneyland + California Adventure (Park Hopper ticket is mandatory, trust me).

EVERUN tech used in the midsole and topsole is the main component to all-day comfort and responsiveness. Now, you’re not wrong if you think EVERUN looks a lot like BOOST. The tech is very similar so it also feels a lot like BOOST. The kicker though is the topsole, which is an added layer of TPU foam found underneath the insole and in Saucony’s Running line. Remember when people were taking BOOST insoles from adidas cleats and putting them in sneakers to reinforce comfort? Well, the Shadow 5000 EVR already has the TPU foam built into the shoe and not just in the midsole, but literally right under your foot.

Bottom line, if you’re looking for an alternative to BOOST yet still want maximum comfort at a lower price point, the Shadow 5000 EVR is something to consider. Retail for the collaboration is $150, undercutting the UltraBOOST by $30. Inline pairs will be priced just under $150.

I’ve worn my pair for short periods of time, but I’m looking forward to fully testing them out on my next trip where I’ll be on my feet all day.
